40 Below!

This past week has found us frozen... literally.  The temps have been crazy cold. It started on Friday getting cold, but really hit low on Monday and Tuesday and stayed cold until today (Friday).  The kids had school off on Monday for MLK, but it was canceled on Tuesday for cold.  I guess -20 without the windchill is the breaking point.  It was cold.  Wednesday the kids went to school but it wasn't much warmer.  We figured they would for sure be inside during recess due to the cold windchill, which has been what's really made it dangerous outside.  Nope.  The temp was above zero (probably for the only time at all during the day) so the kids went out, never mind the -11 windchill.  Our kids came home from school, cold, irritated, and sick.

Dave talked to the principal and figured out the procedure to request our kids to stay inside when we feel it's too cold for them to be out.  That being said, when it was -17 Thursday morning as they were getting ready for school, Dave said they were going to stay home until it warmed up a bit more.

In the end this was a long week of cold outside and cabin crazy inside.  The kids had a half day on Friday, no school Monday and Tuesday and Papa mandated half day on Thursday, adding in the random kids who stayed home on the days when there was school due to a cold that seems to making rounds in our house. It's been too cold to go outside or go anywhere so we've all been inside. What do you do with ten kids stuck inside for days on end???  All I can say is I am glad we allowed the kids to move into the basement so everyone wasn't on top of each other.  Here are some pics of our unplanned vacation days!
